The COVID-19 pandemic exposes the long-standing housing crisis in remote Indigenous communities. Given that housing is a social determinant of health, we will explore how housing and health are related; how housing inequities lead to health inequities, poor quality of life and decreased well-being. We will define housing suitability of private household. We will discuss how a lack of housing in Indigenous communities leads to overcrowded homes and explore the reasons why overcrowded homes are associated with higher COVID-19 infection rates. Lastly, how a lack of housing in Indigenous communities prevents families from following public health advice.
Topics covered include:
Community leaders, housing administrators, community healthcare and social services providers should attend.
